Monitoring your monthly turnover

You must monitor your total business income monthly to determine if you have reached or are likely to reach the GST turnover threshold. Once you reach the threshold, you have 21 days to register for GST.

It’s important to note that if you project or forecast that you will reach the GST turnover threshold in the next 12 months, you cannot wait until 12 months have passed to register for GST. You must register within 21 days of realising this will occur.

Watch the following short video to see how Amelia, a new small business owner, does it.

If you are still unsure about whether you are required to register or if you have any questions, see Registering for GST on the ATO website or call us.
